Dr. Yolanda E. Smith, is the creator and President of Smith & Associates Mental Health (SAAMH) located in Hollywood, Florida. SAAMH has been effectively treating troubled students and their families for more than twenty years. Dr. Smith began her career in the field of Mental Health in New York, beginning at the grassroots of a non-profit, multi-service organization for teens, where she earned the title of Supervisor of Human Resources for Health Programs. While further developing her expertise, Dr. Smith became an entrepreneur, creating two private practices in Mental Health: Manhattan, New York, and South Orange, New Jersey. With her energy and passion for positively impacting the mental health of students and their families, she also worked in the Newark School System as an intricate member of the Child Study Team, evaluating and treating students who were at-risk for/or eligible for services relating to emotional/behavioral disabilities. When she relocated to South Florida, she brought with her a wealth of knowledge and experience that has been directly applied to clients in her private practice as well as to the School Board of Broward County. Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Smith holds three master degrees: a Master of Science in Management and Administration of Education Programs from Nova Southeastern University, a Master of Social Work from Hunter College, and a Master of Arts in Human Sexuality, Marriage and Family from New York University. Additionally, she holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Social Work from Barry University and a Certification in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the New Jersey Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
Smith and Associates Mental Health focuses on addressing emotional and behavioral needs of students and their families through eclectic modes of therapy. Clientele includes individuals, families and couples of all ages, with psychiatric and case management referrals as needed. Nationally, Dr. Smith is a dynamic interactive, motivating speaker and trainer to audiences of professionals, as well as parents on subjects including Managing the Developmental tasks of Your Adolescents, The Impact of Termination in Bonded Relationships, and Addressing Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities of Students.
She has partnered with educational and family strengthening programs located in Miami-Dade County, providing individual, group and family counseling to students and their families who are at risk for emotional/behavioral disabilities.
The impact of Dr. Smith's work with individuals and their families has significantly broadened the approach and application of clinical behavioral treatment in South Florida.
Dr. Smith works closely with Mental Health Professionals who are proficient in the fields of Clinical Psychology, Exceptional Student Education, and Education Administration in order to ensure thorough services to children and adolescents under her care. In addition, Dr. Smith supervises registered interns seeking to obtain a clinical license in the state of Florida.
Smith and Associates Mental Health collaborates with various medical specialists, (Psychiatrists, Neurologists, and Primary Care Physicians) to provide comprehension care to her patients.
Under the competent direction of Verona Gibson-Zeigler, Ed.S., MSW. - Specializing in Reading and Curriculum, Educational Leadership, and Therapeutic Services; Smith and Associates Mental Health partnerships with community agencies who are involved in strengthening families and empowering youth.
